Welcome! If this is your first time here, thank you for visiting our site and we hope you had a good time exploring all of the quirky and mind-blowing science that we cover here! Some science stories are too good not to share ;)

For long-time readers of Neurorexia, I'm incredibly grateful that you've stuck with me all these years. The site's gone through multiple iterations, growing as I grow as a writer and science communicator. There's a big gap between my previous blogging efforts - research blogging, where I break down research papers graph-by-graph - and my current articles, which tend to dig deeper into the background and crux of things to really get a feel of how the research fits into what we already know.

Most of my work since 2015 has been published on Singularity Hub, and over the next few months I'm going to take another look at them and link to the worthy ones from this site.

I'm leaving my current post-doc position to travel around Canada and work as a full-time science writer starting this July (eek!). As such I'm looking for work - daily or weekly short news articles, much like the ones I post here. If anyone has leads on open positions, please DM me on Twitter @ShellyFan and shoot me an email shelly[at]

If you have a study that you'd like to see me cover, please also give me a shout. I'm always looking for story ideas!
